Schools' Service

All Yorkshire schools where classics is taught are welcome to use the Schools’ Service by simply registering. The Schools' Committee consists of teachers of Classics in registered schools, all of whom are entitled to offer suggestions and comments on the services provided and will, it is hoped, support those services by making use of them and helping in their organisation. The Schools' Secretary is always most grateful for suggestions and offers of help.

Services available include:

  • an annual reading competition (Greek & Latin and Drama in translation)
  • an annual sixth form Classical Civilisation sixth-form conference
  • an annual sixth form half-day conference on AS & A2 Latin set texts held in Manchester
  • a Schools’ Lecture service whereby members of the Department of Classics at the University of Leeds visit schools to give talks to students
  • a Text Book Pool
  • a Teaching Materials Pool
  • Competitions
  • a Message Board for teachers and students to exchange views and ideas
  • This web site

When you register a username and password will be e-mailed to you. You will then have access to details of all services and news. The Message Board is available to all and is where news of events and information will be found. The web log (News & Updates) has news of events and other items not of specifically local interestr. Schools will also receive e-mail reminders from time to time.
